Frequently Asked Questions

We know that when it comes to painting projects, our clients have lots of questions, and we're here to answer them.

Where do you provide your services?

Bay View Painting's office is located in Rockland, ME, but we gladly provide our services to customers anywhere from Brunswick to Belfast.

2

Do I have to be at home while my house is being painted?

No. In fact, it’s quite common for people to be away from home while the work is going on. During painting projects, beds, and furniture must be completely covered and protected, and some types of paints and prep processes tend to give off a stronger smell.

Therefore, customers are usually advised not to stay at home! At Bay View Painting, we have a highly trained and trustworthy team, so you can rest assured that you're leaving your home in the best hands.

3

Should I supply the paint myself?

Since you’re working with a professional painting company, it makes more sense to let us take care of this part of the process. This will save you time and help you get the best price and the quality paint your project deserves.

4

Can I choose my own paint colors or do you provide color consultation?

You can choose colors yourself, but many painters offer color consultations to help you make the best choices for your space. We included!

5

How to select the right colors?

Choosing the color for your house is really up to you and your preferences, but we suggest you consider the things that are not going to change.

For example, the color of your roof, if you have brick or stone, and any patio you might have. This can help you determine the guidelines for choosing colors for your house that go well with those particular items.

6

Who handles the cleaning after the painting project is completed?

Our Bay View Painting team is dedicated to client satisfaction, that’s why our team is responsible for cleaning up any and all mess during the painting project and after the job is completed. We make sure areas are vacuumed/swept clean at the end of every day, leaving the space free of debris.

7

Why do you need to sand if it’s in good shape and there’s nothing peeling?

Applying a new product without giving it something to grab onto will ultimately lead to the new finish failing. Especially if it's a glossy finish!

8

What’s the difference between stain and paint?

Both paint and stain are used to protect, preserve, and decorate your home by covering it with a pigmented coating.

But the main difference between them is that paint lies on the surface of the item being painted, whereas stain is absorbed into it.

9

What is the difference between exterior and interior paints?

Interior paints are made with fewer VOCs (Volatile organic compounds), which means they don’t fill rooms with fumes. They are also made to be scrubbed, resist staining, and allow cleaning.

Exterior paints are often made with ingredients that will help them combat fading and withstand the elements, like heavy rain, and sunlight, which can fade the color of the paint if it’s not made with protective qualities.
